Today I got a phone call that had me flabbegasted and unable to respond in an appropriate manner.
It went something like this...
me: hello?
>no answer<
me: Hello??
Male: hi, Cherie. This is Ryan Davis. I'm the pool guy whose taken care of your pool the past few years.
me: oh, hi (why is he calling? Problem with our pool?)
Him: How's your pool doing?
me: (um, that's a weird question - wasn't he just here yesterday? He must have done something to it and told J)... erm, it's fine. We just replaced the filter so we're working through a few issues with that...
Him: That's great. Listen, I'm not calling about the pool. I no longer work for the pool company.
me: umm.. ok (what?? Why is he calling here then?)
Him: I'm actually calling you to tell you a website that'll help you earn enough money in 1-2 years to just walk away and take it easy from that point forward.
me: I'm not interested. (what?!)
Him: ok, well, great to talk to you. Have a nice day.
me: yeah, ok.
>hang-up<
At this point I'm standing there with the phone in hand and mentally scratching my head. What just happened here? I can't believe it.
I'm guessing he was either fired or quit and now he's using the client list of the pool company as his direct call list to sell his get-rich-quick website? I don't think that this is even remotely ethical.
I went in to check with J that I wasn't off my rocker and that this guy had no business calling here to push his phony baloney promises of wealth. J agreed and we decided a call to the owner of the company was needed.
So, yes, I told on the guy. I'm a big ol' tattle tale. I called the owner and told him just what this Ryan Davis had done and that he might want to know that the guy is going down the client list doing this. Owner was none too pleased to hear this so I imagine that Mr. Davis received an ear banging shortly thereafter.
Weird. Bizarre. And I didn't appreciate it.
But if you're looking to get rich quick, by all means, give Mr Davis a call. I'm sure he'll be happy to part you from your hard-earned money and will do so quickly and without compunction. No one does things like this out of the kindness of their heart. He's obviously going to be making a profit from each person he signs up. Nice.
