Cherie and this blog

Most photos seen here have come from my cellphone camera. I use an LG VX8300 with a 1.3 megapixel camera at 1280 x 960 resolution. Nothing too fancy, but it does an excellent job and allows me to share my view on the world. Enjoy!

The Fairmont Restaurant becomes a drive-in

Friday, July 11, 2008

Tonight Joe and I were at the local Baskin Robbins getting some ice cream when sister #4 gave me a call and told me to hightail it up to the Fairmont Restaurant to "see the car parked in the dining room."

We needed no further encouragement and zipped over there. And this is what we saw!

Quick back story: according to the passenger's daughter (passenger was elderly 88 (??) year old man) he had his elderly female companion drive him home after dinner. She put it into reverse and then the accelerator either got jammed or she panicked and the result was a wide, arcing burn out that culminated in a new entrance to the dining room area. 2 diners were hit and were in the hospital but are not seriously injured. The female driver has no idea what happened - maybe dementia? The passenger ended up in the backseat but thankfully neither was injured.

Here are the photos I was able to get. It was dusk so the lighting is weird and I was afraid to get to close for fear the cops would beat me with their bully sticks. Well, ok, maybe not *that* ... but I didn't want to get too close.

My first look at the incident. You can see the tire marks leading away from the car... she must have been moving.

The opposite side of the restaurant - direction she came from.

I'm sorry ma'am, this is not a drive-through. Please pull your car back out of the restaurant.
