Cherie and this blog

Most photos seen here have come from my cellphone camera. I use an LG VX8300 with a 1.3 megapixel camera at 1280 x 960 resolution. Nothing too fancy, but it does an excellent job and allows me to share my view on the world. Enjoy!

Lost at Sea!

Thursday, July 24, 2008

One beautiful sunny day, 5 intrepid sailors set forth on an epic journey across a vast sea of water. Our young heroes were quite brave but knew that the journey must be made for at the end was a Magical Unicorn and it was desired by each as their very own. The logistics of who would claim the unicorn upon reaching their destination was a thought best left for a later date and so with happy hearts and smiling faces, the journey began.

With a might shove and a wild waving of hands and arms, they shoved off. Those left behind wept bitter tears at the thought of the lengthy journey these young sailors would have in front of them. But as the Magical Unicorn was desired above all else, they willingly let them go and removed the cotton balls and other sound plugs from their ears and prepared for a long stretch of peace and quiet.

Ok young sailors. Let's get a move on. You're taking an awful long time to leave!

As the day passed, the sailors tirelessly paddled and paddled. But the Magical Unicorn land was still too far away to see. So they paddled some more. And more. And more.

They smiled as they passed far away lands and saw the land-locked people there. For they knew that they alone were going to get to the Magical Unicorn and that those they saw along the way were of no threat to them.

Suddenly, our brave young captain noticed a horrifying sight. She turned to warn the others - they were about to collide with a ship!

With arms shaking and hearts beating wildly, our sailors dug into the water with their oars and catastrophe was narrowly avoided. Oh! How scary!

They moved away from the ship and continued on their journey.

As they sailed, the sun began to slowly set and the 5 brave little sailors came to a dreadful realization - they were lost. Lost at sea! Would they ever make it to the Magical Unicorn? Would they even make it back home alive?

A vote was taken and it was determined that a course for home was in order. They turned the boat around and began to paddle home. But as they paddled, they took stock of their non-existent supplies and realized that they would starve to death before home was reached.

So they threw one of the crew overboard.

Now there were just 4. At this point the mighty captain declared that all haste must be made to get home and get home quickly. As she issued one order after another, the remaining 3 sailors began to grumble amongst themselves that she was rather bossy. And besides that, how did she get to be captain anyway? That wasn't fair!

So they threw her overboard.

But after eliminating 2 of their crew, the remaining sailors were frightened and alone. They paddled and paddled and paddled some more before finally sighting a dock in the distance. With trembling arms and all thoughts of the Magical Unicorn forgotten, our remaining sailors were brought to shore, given dinner, and put to bed.

And so ends our tale of bravery, heroism, and mutiny aboard the SS Sunburst. While their journey may be over, the memory of our departed sailors will remain forever.

The end.

birthdays and jetskis

Tuesday, July 22, 2008

Today was sister #3's birthday so the entire family (all sisters, 1-6, and related spouses, boyfriends, children, etc as well as the parental units and a few friends) got together for a meal at the cabin on the lake. Sister #3 is a big fan of deep-fried foods so me being the Deep-Fry Queen, I brought out my fryer and the various mixes and items needed and fried up the following:

popcorn size chicken nuggets
hush puppies
• fried okra

These were served with buttermilk biscuits, slaw, and ice tea. Yummers! Sister's husband brought out a fancy cake and that was enjoyed with ice cream and all in all, it was a delicious, erm, I meant a great night!

After the meal and presents and cake, the jet ski was put to use and just before we left, I realized I hadn't taken any photos. Derrr! I meant to shoot the fried meal. Oh well. I did manage to get these few shots in as we were leaving. Enjoy!

The rider is sister #2's husband. The swimmers are sisters #4 and 6. Sister #4 was riding with BIL #2 and got thrown completely off when he cut a sharp turn. We all screamed with laughter - it was pretty funny. I didn't have my cellphone ready then.. that would have been a great shot!
